Surface

Beauty
That's all he sees
Not the entire sum of me
My intelligence or quick wit
Reducing my worth to my external
A shame indeed
A crucial mistake many make
As if physicality ever birthed true happiness

Shiny trinkets
Distract childlike minds
Mirroring everything you want
Taking everything they need

Compliments are natural for you
Like planes in the sky
Leaving their trail
Disturbing the beauty of the vast heavens
Never looking back
Never fixing what has been disrupted

You swim on the surface of deep waters
For me I choose to dive below
Exploring the intricacies of the world beneath

Beauty
A sole factor for children too eager to consume tasty morsels
Uncertain of the ingredients combined to satisfy cravings
Beauty beneath the surface is revealed
Only to those who possess patience
